The architecture of San Antonio traces its origin back to Europe by way of Mexico, Spain and Germany. The stone, tile, oak and wrought iron so prominent in San Antonio are part of the heritage of the region. Italian and German stone cutters, Mexican tile makers and artisans from Alsace created a unique city of the South West. Today, those traditions in architectural styles are continuing in the homes, haciendas and buildings of modern San Antonio. Stone, tile and wrought iron are very much a part of the timeless designs found in the city today.
